METHODOLOGY


Online methodology can work wonders and we use this methodology to successfully conduct numerous consumer, social and business research projects each year. However, we also understand when online is not appropriate and offer a full range of data collection methods to plug any data collection gaps. We will only recommend online when it best meets your needs.

Online research is cost effective - large sample sizes can often be conducted at a much lower cost than traditional methods. Online research can be conducted significantly faster than offline research, as data collection can often be completed within 24 hours, depending upon the breadth of survey. Online research can often be a far more effective way of reaching those who are difficult to reach through traditional data collection methods, including younger people and full-time workers. The visual design of web surveys is highly flexible, and visual prompts can be used very effectively. This makes answering the survey stimulating for the respondent, as well as giving greater scope in the design of the questionnaire. Web surveys can be completed at any time during the given fieldwork period, and as responses are saved automatically, they go not need to be completed in one sitting. Online surveys deal efficiently with question filtering and response validation.

Why CIVOC


Just over 60 per cent of the UK population, for example, has access to the internet. Attitudes and opinions of online audiences can differ significantly from those without internet access, and the online population is skewered towards certain demographic groups. Certain surveys we would recommend not be carried out online, as results may show an incorrect reflection of true opinion.No simple database of e-mail addresses exists, so online research is often conducted amongst online panels or client databases. Beware of poor samples or rogue panel suppliers delivering unreliable data. Never be afraid top ask about the quality of the sample and be suspicious if you do not get satisfactory answers. As with traditional forms of self-completion data collection, sometimes it is difficult to be sure if your respondent is who he says he is. The 'professional panellist' will try to complete surveys for incentives, so as researchers we need to add verification questions into the surveys and keep the level of incentives in check.
